Apple Ridge County Club holds auction as it nears new future https://njgolf.net/2016/01/31/apple-ridge-county-club-holds-auction-as-it-nears-new-future/ https://njgolf.net/2016/01/31/apple-ridge-county-club-holds-auction-as-it-nears-new-future/#respond Sun, 31 Jan 2016 06:27:36 +0000 http://njgolf.net/?p=1342 Via NorthJersey.com:

Inside the Apple Ridge County Club this week, landscapers and construction workers milled about the scenic atrium where polo-clad golfers once dined and talked shop.

Dressed in camouflage-patterned caps and hardy sweatshirts, they listened intently as an auctioneer rattled off the sundry bits and pieces that kept the club going for nearly five decades. Thom Bishop, a manager at Bowling Green Golf Club of Morris County, looks at golf carts as bidders get a preview of the contents up for auction at the Apple Ridge Country Club.

“What you see is what you get,” the auctioneer, from Englewood Cliffs-based Caspert Auctioneers and Appraisers, repeated constantly as pictures of lawn equipment and tools flashed across a screen above him.

On Thursday, there were rolls of wire, weed wackers, walkie-talkies, nozzles and, of course, golf carts for up bid. An anvil went for $200 — a “good mother-in-law gift,” joked the auctioneer.

The Apple Ridge Country Club formally closed Dec. 31, and its 108 acres straddling Mahwah and Upper Saddle — one of the area’s last open spaces — will in time be the site of 78 single-family homes.

Then, an opportunity came up for Jaworski to purchase Ramblewood Country Club in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, which is a seven-minute drive from Flacco’s home. “I reached out to Joe and said, ‘You’ve always spoken about preparing for life after football and do you have any interest in partnering,'” said Jaworski, who now owns seven golf courses. “It’ll be a good relationship. We’ll have a little sports pub and we’ll have a number of Flacco [No. 5] jerseys.”

With a new owner, big changes are coming to the 50-year-old golf course, including the addition of a Ron Jaworski Golf signature bar and restaurant, Seven Tap & Tavern, and improvements to the clubhouse and course itself.

High Mountain Golf Club to Close Within Weeks https://njgolf.net/2014/10/09/high-mountain-golf-club-to-close-within-weeks/ https://njgolf.net/2014/10/09/high-mountain-golf-club-to-close-within-weeks/#respond Fri, 10 Oct 2014 01:52:54 +0000 http://njgolf.net/?p=1331 Via NorthJersey.com: The 18-hole semiprivate course in Franklin Lakes is scheduled to close within a few weeks… The fate of High Mountain, which opened in 1966, is part of a growing nationwide trend of course closings, and it isn’t the only Bergen County club to be shutting down this decade. Apple Ridge Country Club in Mahwah and Upper Saddle River was sold in June. Like High Mountain, plans call for the private 18-hole course, which also opened in 1966, to close in several years and be replaced by residences.

Tichenor is the head superintendent at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield and he figured when he started talking about the process, his young audience would lose interest.

The event is meant to build on the momentum begun when Somerset County’s Tourism campaign kicked off in January, organizers said.

While there have been interested parties, the talks have been casual and haven’t progressed enough to be considered serious.
